A Bit About Me
Kanitra Caston is the owner and operator of Loving Blackness, LLC a consulting business spawned from her radio show Loving Blackness where black women could share their stories and speak their truths in a supportive and nurturing space. Kanitra is currently the Operations Manager for LLSC and the Project Manager for the Louisiana Gulf Coast Grantmaking Project for Deep South Center for Environmental Justice. A proud native of New Orleans, Kanitra brings over a decade of nonprofit administration experience to LLSC, fueled by her passion for closing the city’s equity gaps while preserving its rich cultural integrity. Kanitra's activism journey began with her dedication to addressing systemic inequities in her hometown, and she remains deeply committed to serving communities across the Gulf South. Her work has intersected with numerous organizations and movements advocating for environmental justice and highlighting racial inequities, including the Green New Deal Network, Energy Future New Orleans, Gen. Russel Honore’s Green Army, Gulf South 2 the Appalachia, Katrina20 and others. She has also successfully directed several large-scale events throughout Louisiana, focused on children in foster care, environmental justice, cultural preservation, and community empowerment. Above all, Kanitra treasures her relationship with her son, Kam, which she considers her greatest accomplishment.
