A Bit About Me
Justin Solet, a tribal citizen of the United Houma Nation, hails from a family of commercial fishermen in lower Terrebonne Parish, Southeast Louisiana. He gained early maritime experience working on his father’s shrimp boat before transitioning to the oilfield as a blowout specialist in Alaska, Texas, Oklahoma, and the Gulf states. Currently, Justin serves as an Equation Fellow for True Transition, where he advocates for the remediation of thousands of abandoned oil and gas wells throughout Louisiana. He also sits on the board of the North American Marine Alliance (NAMA), working to ensure fishworkers receive fair compensation, safe working conditions, and a voice in the seafood value chain. In 2023, Justin testified before the House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources in Washington, D.C., addressing the five-year offshore leasing plan and the future of Gulf Coast energy jobs. Additionally, he is a Lead Transition Team Member for the Louisiana Liberation and Sovereignty Collective, supporting Black and Indigenous-led grassroots initiatives across the state.
